Even though the damage is done, Paula Deen is making a desperate bid to to dismiss part of the lawsuit that has brought down her empire.
Attorneys for the celebrity chef and her brother, Bubba Hiers, contend that the woman suing them on the grounds of racial discrimination, among other claims, doesn't have legal standing to file the claim because she is white. And in the filing Monday, the legal eagles pointed to the Supreme Court's \recent ruling in the Prop 8 case in which the court said anyone suing in federal court must have standing.
That would mean that the line of questioning that led to Paula's admission that she has used the N-word in the past shouldn't even have been part of the case. Still, it seems too little too late. Paula is said to have lost an estimated $12.5 million in earnings since the scandal broke.
